Sitting here patiently waiting for my new 3000. Yeah, right ! 20 minutes after I ordered it, I was watching UPS trucks.

Ok, like most of us, after 30 years I've acquired a collection of microphones, some ham , some not, some from the AM days, Swan handheld, D104, etc.

This is a new type of microphone connector, for me. I've done reams of telephone and network, but never audio. What am I looking at for
wiring up mics to try out? Make an interface box ?

Any suggestions welcome.

Flex 3000 strong spur at 7.200mhz / Low receive signal strength

I just unboxed and hooked up my new Flex 3000 this morning. Software installed without a hitch on my Windows XP pro pc. Ran fine and seems to be working. However, receive signal strength is way way down and I can hear a very strong spur on my Icom 756pro2 at 7.200 mhz when the Flex 3000 is on. The spur disappears when I turn the Flexradio off. Has anyone else experienced these problems? If so, how did you fix it?

Tnx...Arnie

Newbie - no transmit audio - Help!!!!

Ok...I have this new Flex 3000 and it installed without a hitch. Using PowerSDR 2.0.22. Receive now works great.
But...I have no transmit audio! Help!!!!
I made up a cable to use with my Icom handmike using these directions:
FLEX-1500 Icom
RJ45 Connector (male) 8-Pin Foster (female)

Pin 1: <-----[ Up ]------------------> NOT CONNECTED
Pin 2: <-----[ Down ]--------------> NOT CONNECTED
Pin 3: <-----[ +5 VDC ]------------> Pin 2
Pin 4: <-----[ Mic - ]----------------> Pin 7
Pin 5: <-----[ Mic + ]---------------> Pin 1
Pin 6: <-----[ PTT ]-----------------> Pin 5
Pin 7: <-----[ Ground ]------------> Pin 6*
Pin 8: <-----[ Not Used ]----------> NOT CONNECTED

I have checked all connections and they are good on the cable. PTT does key the xmit, but not getting any audio.
Can anyone suggest solution? Or maybe run me through the settings I need under "Setup>audio" in PowerSDR to get transmit audio?

Is anyone using a computer headset attached to the computer soundcard and able somehow to route that audio into PowerSDR for transmit?
Thanks....Arnie W8DU

Odd issue on receive 2.0.22

$

I noticed this issue a few days ago, and it is easily reproduced.

Using my Flex-3000 with 2.0.22, whenever I do an on-air recording of my transmitted audio, I see strange things on receive. Most notably, strong signals on a given band are reproduced about 20 khz higher in frequency in the inverse sideband. i.e. a strong LSB signal on 3.828 MHz will be reproduced in USB on 3.851 MHz.

Shutting down PowerSDR and powering off the Flex 3000, then a restart of everything cures the problem.
Reappears again after recording on-air transmit audio.

Any ideas on what may be causing this? Is it a buffer issue? I am running in normal operation mode with
a 2048 buffer.

Thanks.

Flex 3K cooling

Howdy,

I recently ran my Flex 3K in CW beacon mode on 6m band for about 1 hour in reduced power mode (about 40W output). After I got back to the shack I realized that casing of the radio was 'red hot'. I think the temperature was like 90C or so.

Of course the in-built fans were all running at full power.

Any ideas how I can modify cooling system of my Flex so that I don't have the temperature ever go up as high as 70C or so????

Thanks

Just got my Flex-3000

FedEx just dropped off my Flex-3000 today. I unboxed it went over the startup manual and placed it in my shack. That was fun...... Now since I don't have a computer with the horsepower or firewire connection yet(I ordered a SDR ready system from Neal K3NC yesterday) there was not much more I could do with my new toy.

Then I remembered my iMac came with boot camp and I could install Windows 7 in boot camp on the iMac. I backed everything up on the iMac, reloaded it from scratch and am now in the process of loading Windows 7 into boot camp. I figure this will at least let me setup the Flex-3000 and play with it for a while until my SDR ready system is delivered. I have a list of things I need to download and install under Windows (virtual sound card, virtual com ports, virtual cables, etc).

Does anyone know if the SDR ready systems come all setup with everything you need or do you still have to install the virtual sound card, cables, etc?

CW keyer delay/miss-timing on 1st character

$

Hi all,

Just got my 3000 and all good except one problem with CW keyer timing.

CW mode, Iambic key, Internal keyer - the 1st "dit" I send at any time is significantly longer or shorter than the subsequent string of "dits". Usually it sends as a longer character than subsequent/following dits. IE: If I just hold the dit paddle, it sends one character that is almost a "dah" then a string of accurately timed "dits" as normal until I release the paddle. Sometimes (no particular patern to the behavior) it sends a very short character then a string of normal "dits"

If I use an external keyer and hit the "dit" paddle, it's always long. In fact the first character is definatey as long as a "dah" then a long string of "dits" at normal timing until the key is released.

I've tried "strict character timing", changing buffer sizes, ramp and different character speeds. It has this problem all the way down to about 12WPM.

Any suggestions? It would be nice if this can be fixed as one of the main reasons I got this radio was for the narrrow filter control in CW mode. Not much good if I cant send.

Yours,

Dene - VK5DO

Flex-3000 / PowerSDR freezing

$

I have had my Flex-3000 for about a week. Use the PowerSDR along with DM780 for
the digital modes. Up until yesterday it worked perfectly.

Last night when I was on 20 meters PowerSDR would freeze for about 5 seconds and
then the DM780 waterfall would show a loss of all signals.
The PowerSDR was still powered on, but not receiving and if I tried to transmit
it showed zero RF output.

Changing bands from 20 meters to another band did not correct the problem. I had
to power down the PowerSDR app and close, then reopen the PowerSDR application
before normal operation was resumed.

PowerSDR wold repeat this loss of signal and no RF over and over every few
minutes

Any idea what would cause this type of problem? I'm running PowerSDR on a iMac
under the latest version of boot camp with Windows 7 32 bit version. My latency
when I checked was 212 at the highest reading, most times it would be under 200.

When PowerSDr freezes up, everything else is still working normally and DM789
and the log program work normally.

"Brickwall" Narrow CW filtering with no ringing - How to achieve??

$

Hi All,

Watching some of the YouTube videos on the 3000, I’ve see people with CW filtering that seems a lot better than what I’ve been able to achieve - Razor sharp narrow filters on CW and with no ringing. In fact it was these videos that most influenced my decision to purchase a 3000. No-one around here has a Flex to go look at.

I’m working at 48kHz Sample Rate with 512 buffer. When I monitor the output audio spectrum via VAC and just by ear, with default DSP options I can get the narrow (CW) filters but heaps of ringing. If I set the DSP Options CW RX buffer to 512 or 256 there’s no ringing but the roll-off/skirts are a mile wide.

So…… How does one get the “Brickwall” filtering on CW with no ringing?

Thanks in advance

Flex 3000 SWR problem

I recently put up a full wave horizontal loop for 40m and it seems to have a SWR between 3 and 4 to one. However my Flex ATU refused to provide a match for anything over 3:1. I had thought it was supposed to match up to 6:1. Is that wrong? Is there any way to make it accept a match over 3:1?

VSPe question

$

I've had my Flex 3000 about a month now and everything seems to be working fine (with a few caveats which I'll address in a separate post!). Of course, I went through numerous growing pains and mis-steps, but it's all good. I use it strictly for digital, tied to DM780 and after adding the extra virtual cable for the PTT, it seems to be doing dandy.

That said, after re-reading post after post and wearing out the manual, I started to wonder about why everyone said to set up the VSPe with comports 7 and 17 (or similar). When I set VSPe up, it only asked for one com port....so I set up a second one with the appropriate number. Didn't need it, but I did it because I was "supposed to". By now I imagine a couple of you have figured out that I set up a pair of "connectors", not a single "pair"! Sheesh. I'm too old for this!

My set up seems to work great with a single "connector" between HRD and PowerSDR. So my question is: What are the advantages/disadvantages of a "connector" vs a "pair"?

Nothing worse than an old newbie!
