FLEXRADIO 3000 FIREWIRE PROBLEM
USB to Firewire adapter
This means I have a firewire cable that has firewire connectors on both ends, one for the radio and one for the desktop.
I want to run the 3000 on a laptop that does not have a firewire slot.
I understand I can get a USB to Firewire adapter from an online supplier.
Will the adapter work? I have seen posting that say this will work.
If so, does any one know what online supplier I can contact?

Flex 3000 xmit drift
The has been on all day. The case is very cool to the touch. In checking the forum I found how to check the Temp/vollt. It reads 13.7v 38C. The flex is sitting in an open space on the desk with plenty of space for air flow.
The rec freq is rock solid. Of course I checked to make sure that xit not on. That is what we thought might have happened. The station reported that when I first called him I was on freq. When turned back to me I dropped low enough that he had to rit to be able to understand me. I made several transmissions and never changed my "dial" setting of 50.140.000. After a min or so I settled down to the high freq.

Flex 3000 / fldigi / VAC
I have 2 setups. First is the Kenwood-TS2000 with Signalink USB, works flawlessly with fldigi, always decodes well and the received signal always holds steady as shown by the green bar in fldigi.
Second setup is Flex 3000, fldigi and VAC. When observing the received signal the green bar is jumping up and down and never holds steady therefore decoding is terrible.
VAC set up is:
SR: 8000 - 192000
BPS: 8 - 16
NC: 1-2
Line In only checked
Max Inst: 20
Ms per Int: 5
Stream fmt limit: Cable range
Volume control: unchecked
I have this set for both Cable 1/2
Sample Rate in fldigi is 48000, Buffer Size 2048
Any others with issues or suggestions on how to get this working as so far it's unusable as a digital station.

CW Skimmer and PowerSDR - working at last
----------------------------------------------------
CW Skimmer works with my following hardware and software setup:
- PC: Sony notebook VPCF23A9E
- CPU: Intel i7-2670QM 2,2 GHz - 6GB RAM
- OS: Windows 7 64bit
- Flex-3000
- PowerSDR 2.3.5
- MiniDeluxe 1.0.4560.32438
- VAC 4.12.0.4974 by Eugene Muzychenko (licence needed)
- VSPE 0.938.4.846 by eterlogic (64bit version, licence needed. 32bit version is free)
- HRD Digital Master 780 5.23.0.12 Build 3349
- HRD Logbook 5.23.0.12
- CW Skimmer 1.71 (licence needed) and Aggregator 2.1
With this setup and all programs running CPU load does not exceed 30 percent.

Be careful how and where you create COM ports as Windows can easily
be crashed by COM ports having the same numbers.
I tend to use COM port numbers above 10 as I have some USB-serial cables,
Flex control etc. below that. There is a very useful small and free (!) software
called "Fujitsu serial port viewer and terminal" version 4.9 which shows all
your serial ports:
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Network-Tools/Misc-Networking-Tools/Fujitsu-Serial-Port-Viewer-and-Terminal.shtml
Steps to setup software
1. Start PowerSDR
2. Create a CAT port (COM 17, baud rate 57600)
3. With VSPE create a virtual COM port (17)
4. With VSPE create a splitter COM 17 => COM 7
5. Now you can use COM 7 for MiniDeluxe, CW-Skimmer and Bob Meters for example (all programs use the SAME virtual COM port 7!!!)
6. In CW Skimmer set: settings - radio - SoftRock IF - sampling rate 96 kHz
7. In CW Skimmer set: settings - audio - Sound Card Driver WDM - Signal I/O FlexRadio Audio - Audio I/O (your speaker)
8. In CW Skimmer set: settings - CAT - Cnfigure - RIG 1: PowerSDR - COM7 - baud rate 57600 - RTS handshake - DTR high
That should do it: CW Skimmer runs and using the Aggregator from the reverse beacon network website
http://www.reversebeacon.net/genn.php?a=aggregator
you can send all your CW stations to the RBN.
Now a last word about PC's, CPUs and OS:
1. Flex Radios are not cheap, so why use a cheap computer?
2. Aim for the fastest CPU, biggest memory and fastest harddisk or SSD you can lay your hands on
3. I know that there are people who are glad to get along with CPU loads of 90% but 30-40% have a big margin above...
4. Firewire works well with Sony notebooks, I don't know about others. Feedback welcome!
5. Windows is far from perfect as an OS, Linux would be much better, but because of missing firewire drivers we're stuck with Windows
6. Look at those latency times
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks to: Dave W0DHB, Lars DL4JLM, Klaus DK7XL and a lot of other OM who
helped set me right about COM ports and splitters and my faults, hi...

PowerSDR - HRD - BobMeters - PTT line
I found that Bob Meters is a fine program as it stays on top of my
screen (I have only one, using my notebook) and digimode programs.
For CAT I am using MiniDeluxe and I used this also for PTT via HRD
on DM-780 and JT65HF.
Bob Meters is blocking this PTT via HRD line, you have to use a
separate PTT line via a virtual COM cable and PowerSDR setup:
With VSPE create a new splitter COM18 => COM8 (example)
and put all PTT lines on COM8. While creating the new splitter
uncheck DTR and RTS and redirect modem registers or PowerSDR
will go to transmit.
In case everybody knows this already I apologize ;-)

Lost CW sidetone in PSDR v2.1.5
Will Yaesu MD100A8X work or better mic?
Google sent me to a Mods URL and I saw something there but the terms for the various pins didn't mesh with the flex.
I'm look for a plug-n-play, not interested in trying to wire up an RJ-45.
Even if I can't use the MD100Z8X filter (thought the 5V+ from Flex looks like the power is there if the pins are right) I want to be sure it won't shot anything when plugged in. Remember when Mics were just Mics :) The mic's impedance is 500 ohms.
I could probably send it back to universal radio for a more compatible model - if I know what that would be.
Any advice/suggestions appreciated.

Change BNC to PL259?
I am new to this forum so I hope I am in the right place.
My question is has anyone changed the BNC to a PL259 on a Flex 3000, and are there any known problems in doing this.
Thanks for taking time to read this and hopefully your reply

3000 audio setup
Are there any sources that can help guide me in adjusting the 3000/MD100 combination? The MD100 is in pass-thru mode.
I did some on the air trials with the 10 band EQ and it did not seem to make much difference.
The TXEQ "light" was on so I know it was in the circuit.
I am not looking for big echo chamber type audio - just nice clean defined audio.
All help is welcome.

TX Relay
I just got a Flex SDR 3000 and wonder if I can plug my Kenwood TL 922 Amp directly to the TX out or do I need
An external relay to protect the internal relay on the Flex 3000.
Thanks in advance for your comments, will be highly appreciated .
